VISA Promotions
Most credit union members want a VISA card that they can get excited about. Similar to driving a cool car it can be a status symbol. Members pull it out often and it should positively represent your credit union’s brand, ideally, the connection that ties your members together. And, it’s gotta be cool!
A Cool VISA Card will bring in Checking and Savings Accounts
Members want a checking account with the whole package, including a cool VISA Debit Card and, ideally, with the best VISA Credit Card. Rewards is a definite plus.
Linking your Credit Card to Overdraft Protection would be too good to be true. Consider offering members an advance on their VISA as a path to cover overdrafts at a reasonable fee. Offer this to your best members in addition to “courtesy pay.” (And lets be honest, “courtesy pay” is not a win-win). Members having financial difficulties don’t need “punitive” fees.
A reasonable rate is nice for those members carrying a balance. Again, this should be a win-win. The member gets a good rate and the credit union makes a nice return.
Even though at Tactics, we hate gimmicks, an introductory rate and a low balance transfer interest rate can be an attractive way to introduce your “cool” card.
What is Compelling about Your Card?
Even with the best credit card program, you’ll have to convince your members to get one. There’s a lot of competition. What compelling reason for using your VISA are you planning to market? Give us a call, we can help with that!
VISA with Rewards is Cool!
A number of years ago it was winter in Salt Lake City and I noticed I had accumulated enough Reward Points to travel to Cancun, Mexico. I discoverd two things. Winter in Mexico is not winter in Salt Lake City and I became addicted to rewards.
Members Use the Card with Rewards
At the time my credit union had two program. A low interest rate and a rewards program. It was obvious which card got used more often. Members loved the rewards.
Your members will use the card they perceive to have the best rewards. Keep your members “playing the rewards game” by making sure they can easily see the points they’ve accumulated. (Remember, we love games only when we know the score). Also, get your staff excited about your rewards program. Give them incentives to use your card. Getting your staff excited about your card is the first step to getting members excited about it.
Trip to Cabo using Reward Points
The best whale watching I’ve seen is in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. On three different trips I saw a whale breach similar to this photo. This was a photo from February 2018. As usual, I didn’t get the photo but the professional photographer on board did.
